Celebrated Chinese fashion designer Feng Chen Wang is continuing her partnership with Converse by releasing a new duo of her signature Chuck 70 ‘2-in-1’ model, which returns bearing an intriguing textural treatment.

Based on the concept of ‘Reborn From The Rubble’, this timely resurrection of the Chuck 70 variant – of which early prototypes were spotted on FCW runway shows in 2018 – plays into the theme quite convincingly. Firstly, it does this by remaking the uppers in leather rather than the canvas used on previous releases, perhaps a move interpreted as coming back stronger than ever. Beyond the figurative, the rubble idea is translated as a rough concrete textured graphic superimposed onto the upper, which then runs into the double-stacked midsole with its bumpy surface.

Furthermore, the very design of the ‘2-in-1’ is a rather literal expression of the Chuck emerging from the inside of another, thus tying back to the ‘Reborn From The Rubble’ theme. This unique execution is made entirely FCW’s with her name stamped between the dual heel pull tabs, which double as loops to wrap the laces around the ankle. On the colourway front, a flat grey finish is a tonal take on the theme, while the other beige and bright pink is an intriguing clash, continuing the two-toned finishes of previous FCW colabs.
The new Feng Chen Wang x Converse Chuck 70 ‘2-in-1’ collection will release on October 12, directly from Converse.
